Amravati: The death of two young undertrials at the Amravati Central Jail within a month has raised concerns over prisoner health and jail administration protocols.Social worker Alim Patel has flagged the issue, urging the administration to strictly enforce National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) directives related to custodial deaths.According to Patel, the two deceased inmates have been identified as Adil Qureshi, a native of Mumbai, and Mohammad Mohasin, a resident of Akola. Both were lodged at the Amravati Central Jail and died during imprisonment within a span of one month.The jail administration has attributed the deaths to illness, Patel said. “We have submitted a memorandum to the district collector and the jail superintendent. We have urged the collector to look into the matter and requested the superintendent to strictly follow NHRC directives,” Patel told media.He added that strict enforcement of NHRC guidelines is crucial to safeguard the lives of inmates. “NHRC directives are meant to protect human rights inside prisons. Their strict implementation can save lives. Prisoners should not die like this,” Patel said.
