Assembly speaker calls for smooth monsoon session

Patna: Ahead of the five-day monsoon session of the state legislature beginning on Monday, assembly speaker Prem Kumar on Friday asked departments to ensure the presence of their additional chief secretary, principal secretary or secretary in the House.Kumar issued the direction at a high-level meeting with senior officials to review security, traffic, medical facilities, cleanliness, parking and other arrangements. Legislative council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh was also present.The Speaker stressed better coordination between the executive and the legislature and said senior officials should return calls if they are unable to answer them because of official engagements.At a separate all-party meeting, Kumar said the smooth and peaceful conduct of the session was a priority. Though the session would be brief, he expressed hope that the maximum number of agenda items could be taken up.He said proceedings would be conducted in accordance with House rules and sought the cooperation of all parties. Questions for Zero Hour will be accepted online from 8am to 9am, while notices for call attention motions can be submitted between 9am and 10am.
