The all-vegetarian menu served to visiting leaders at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi has sparked a heated debate on X, with users divided over India’s choice of food for the event. The menu featured traditional dishes including khandvi, paneer lababdar, millet pulao, Kashmiri morels, khumb galouti and jalebi, showcasing India’s diverse vegetarian cuisine. While some users criticised the absence of non-vegetarian dishes and questioned whether India’s wider culinary diversity was represented, others defended the menu as a showcase of India’s unique vegetarian food culture and culinary traditions. The debate also turned political, with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing Congress of politicising the menu. Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Rahul Gandhi criticised the vegetarian-only spread, citing India’s diverse food habits and non-vegetarian cuisine.
