Patna: Newly appointed college teachers must see themselves as nation-builders, not merely govt employees, governor Syed Ata Hasnain said on Sunday, urging them to transform the state’s degree colleges into centres of quality education.Addressing an orientation programme for newly appointed assistant professors here, the governor said teaching was not just a job but a responsibility to shape students’ futures and society. “The relationship between a teacher and a student lasts a lifetime,” he said, stressing the need for integrity, discipline and exemplary conduct.The appointment of nearly 2,400 teachers within a month was a major achievement, he said, praising Lok Bhavan, the higher education department and the officials involved in the recruitment drive. The exercise, he added, had projected a positive image of Bihar nationally and demonstrated that effective planning, teamwork and hard work could deliver results within a short time.Urging the new faculty members not to regard themselves as contractual employees, Hasnain called their appointments the beginning of a new career. “Small beginnings, big thoughts” should guide their professional journey, he said.The governor called for continuous learning, research and the ethical use of technology, the internet and artificial intelligence. He particularly urged teachers to serve in the 211 newly-established degree colleges in rural and remote areas, asserting that Bihar’s real progress would depend on extending quality higher education to students in villages and blocks.He expressed confidence that the new faculty would strengthen the state’s higher education system through dedication and honesty.
