Shillong: The Meghalaya govt has taken up market infrastructure projects worth around Rs 130 crore in Shillong through the state budget.CM Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Malki Market at Malki Ground at a cost of Rs 24.27 crore.Other state-funded projects include the Laitumkhrah Shopping Complex at Rs 38 crore, Laban Market at Rs 14 crore, Lumshyiap at Rs 2 crore, Polo Development at Rs 30 crore, street vendor markets at Dhankheti, Barik, Brightwell Road, Motphran and Polo at Rs 6 crore and redevelopment of Iewduh (Barabazar) at Rs 14 crore.Sangma said the investment in market infrastructure was aimed at strengthening economic activity, creating better spaces for trade and generating livelihoods.He said the allocation for Malki Market is among the highest for any market project in the state, reflecting the area’s potential to emerge as an important economic hub benefiting Malki and surrounding localities.
