Dibrugarh: Sivasagar town was severely waterlogged on Wednesday after heavy early-morning rain, with all 14 municipal wards affected and several localities submerged under knee-deep water. The rain overwhelmed the drainage network, inundating roads, homes and commercial establishments. Residents waded through murky water to reach their homes, workplaces and shops, while movement of cars and two-wheelers was disrupted.Among the worst-affected areas were BG Road, Muktinath Chariali, Dolmukh Chariali, Melachakar, Phukan Nagar, HCB Road, ONGC Colony, Amolapatty, Babupatty, Boarding Road, GNG Path, Ganapatty and Na Ali.Residents blamed recurring waterlogging on clogged and inadequate drains. They called for regular desilting, removal of encroachments and a long-term drainage plan, saying the problem had persisted despite repeated flooding during heavy rain.Bhanu Baruah, a resident of Dolmukh Chariali, said the latest waterlogging had again exposed the town’s drainage problems.“People are worried because the same situation keeps returning whenever there is heavy rain,” she said.Sivasagar Municipal Board chairperson Smriti Rekha Dutta said civic teams were monitoring the affected areas and working to drain the accumulated water.“Teams have been deployed in the affected areas and necessary measures are being taken to clear the water as quickly as possible,” she said.
