SBPDCL engineer caught while taking bribe in Bhagalpur

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Tuesday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) and a private technician while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 for providing a new electricity connection in Bhagalpur district.According to a press release issued by vigilance department, Amit Kumar, posted as a junior engineer at Kautilya north power sub-station on Kutchery Road in Bhagalpur, was caught while accepting the bribe inside his office. Saurabh Kumar, a technician engaged in the installation of smart meters, was also apprehended during the trap operation. He has been named as a non-FIR accused in the case.The action was initiated after Santosh Kumar, a resident of Sahdeo Enclave in Jhauva Kothi under Barari police station area in Bhagalpur, lodged a complaint with the VIB. He alleged that the JE had demanded Rs4,000 to sanction a new electricity connection.After verifying the complaint and finding the allegations to be genuine, the VIB constituted a trap team under the supervision of DSP Mithilesh Kumar. The team laid a trap at the power sub-station and arrested the accused while they were accepting the bribe.The accused are being interrogated and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhagalpur. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more people were involved.
