Police probe bizarre burglaries after women’s hair cut in Darbhanga

Darbhanga: Police in Darbhanga are investigating two unusual burglary cases in which intruders allegedly cut the hair of women in the houses they targeted after searching for cash and valuables. The two incidents were reported from Darhar village under Bahadurpur police station area within a span of 10 days, leaving residents anxious and worried. In the latest incident, which took place in the early hours of Friday, unidentified criminals allegedly entered the house of Suman Kumar Chaudhary and searched for cash and valuables. However, they failed to find anything substantial and reportedly made away with a purse containing Rs1,000.Before leaving, the intruders allegedly picked up a pair of scissors from the house, cut the hair of a teenage girl and left the hair on the bed.In an earlier incident on July 9, criminals allegedly broke into the house of homeopathic doctor Pawan Kumar Mishra in the same village with the intention of stealing cash and valuables. They reportedly decamped with Rs25,000 from an almirah. Police said the intruders also cut the hair of Mishra’s daughter-in-law and left it on the floor before fleeing.City SP Ashok Kumar Chaudhary described the incidents as “peculiar” and said police were trying to trace the gang behind the crimes. “The incidents are unusual. Police are trying to nab the gang members involved in this kind of crime,” he said.Bahadurpur SHO Prasunjay Kumar confirmed both incidents and said efforts were on to identify and arrest those involved. The nature of the incidents has drawn comparisons among local residents with the “Chaddi-Banyan gang”, a name used in different parts of the country for groups of burglars known for striking at night while wearing minimal clothing, often covering their faces and smearing bodies with oil or mud to make identification and capture difficult.binaykumarjha.toi@gmail.com
