Kanpur: A 14-year-old boy who died under suspicious circumstances in Maharajpur two days ago was allegedly strangled to death, a postmortem examination confirmed on Saturday.According to police commissioner Raghubir Lal, the boy’s mother has been taken into custody, while police are searching for her alleged lover. He said the teenager had objected after finding the two together at their house at around 9 pm on Thursday.His mother and her alleged partner then assaulted him and allegedly strangled him to death, police said.Police said the boy’s younger brother also witnessed the assault and ran to another room after getting frightened.To mislead villagers, the woman allegedly told them that her son had developed stomach pain and died late on Thursday night. The younger brother also repeated the same version after being instructed by his mother, police said.However, residents noticed injury marks on the boy’s neck and face and alerted the police.A forensic team collected evidence from the house, and the body was sent for postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.Villagers said the accused later returned to his house and allegedly attempted suicide by hanging himself, but his family members rescued him. He later fled.The boy’s father, who works at a private factory in Gujarat, reached Kanpur on Friday evening. Police said further action would be taken after receiving his written complaint.
