NEW DELHI: A quarrel that allegedly began after two men were asked for a matchbox to light a cigarette ended in murder in northwest Delhi, with police apprehending two 19-year-old men and a juvenile in connection with the case.The incident took place on September 15 near the DSIIDC wine shop.The victims, identified as 30-year-old Bhawani and 32-year-old Asha Ram, were allegedly confronted by three boys after they asked the two men for a matchbox. Both men worked as labourers and, according to police, had gone to the area to buy liquor. However, their family members told the media that the two had gone out for a walk.Police said a heated argument followed when the matchbox was not provided. The three suspects allegedly assaulted the two men with their fists, while accused Naresh Bahadur alias Nepali allegedly attacked them with a knife.A PCR call about the stabbing was received at Keshav Puram police station, following which a police team reached the spot and found blood on the footpath. The injured men were taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where Bhawani was declared brought dead. He had suffered a deep wound to his left back, police said.Asha Ram, who sustained a stab injury to his left lower chest, was undergoing treatment and was initially declared unfit to give a statement.An alleged video shot after the incident shows one of the men lying in a pool of blood, with blood splattered around the area. People were seen crossing the road while he lay on the footpath.Police registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 109(1) (attempted murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.Police said a team used local intelligence and technical inputs to identify those allegedly involved in the attack. Naresh Bahadur and Tarun, both aged 19, were subsequently apprehended along with a juvenile.According to investigators, Naresh Bahadur allegedly used the knife to attack both victims, while Tarun and the juvenile allegedly assaulted them with their fists. Police said the blood-stained knife allegedly used in the offence was recovered at the instance of Naresh Bahadur.
