Gurgaon: A day after residents flagged dumping of waste at a vacant HSVP site in Sector 23A, MCG officials inspecting the site found large bags containing industrial waste being dumped there. Additional commissioner Yash Jaluka ordered sanitation department officials to open and inspect every such bag and trace its source.“We were able to trace those companies which had dumped this waste. We are now going to issue challans to them. We also visited these firms and they misbehaved with us. We are also going to issue challans to the waste collection vendors of these firms since they are dumping their waste openly. There were 20 to 30 bags of industrial waste that we found at the site, following which we traced their source,” said Jaluka.“The concerned senior sanitary inspector had no answer on where the industrial waste had come from and the residents too raised concern about dumping of industrial waste at the site. The finding has raised questions over whether industrial establishments are also dumping their waste openly,” said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, a resident of Sector 23A.“We are already facing multiple problems of unswept and dusty roads, traffic jams and emissions and now even rotten smell from garbage. This is the end of monsoon, a time that increases mosquitoes. If MCG cannot lift the waste simultaneously, why are they dumping waste in a residential area? The waste is mixed with hazardous industrial waste. This is torture,” said Rekha, whose house is the closest to the dump site.The residents of Sector 23A also met the MCG officials on Friday to discuss the issue. “We have been assured that the work on Carterpuri secondary waste collection point will be completed in 10 days, so we should be prepared for more waste being dumped at the site,” said Tripathy.He added that, meanwhile, for faster lifting of waste, a second heavy-duty excavator has been pushed into service. But the number of dumpers has not increased, he said.
