Gurgaon: Two men, wanted in theft cases, were shot in the leg after they allegedly opened fire, police said.The encounter took place on Agra Canal Road in the Kheri Pul police station area Tuesday night.The accused have been identified as Sonu and Rahul, both residents of Mohan Nagar in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area.Police said the breakthrough came after their alleged associate Shivam, also a resident of Mohan Nagar, was arrested on Sept 15. During questioning, police said, Shivam disclosed the involvement of the duo in a theft case.Police have registered an attempt to murder case against them.They were taken to Civil Hospital Faridabad for treatment, where their condition was stated to be normal.Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Varun Kumar Dahiya said that the police had received information that the two men were planning another theft. Two police teams set up a check post on Agra Canal Road.Police said the two men arrived on a motorcycle and tried to flee after spotting the police team. When the police chased them, the accused fired around five to six rounds at the police personnel.Police then retaliated, hitting both men in the legs, following which they were apprehended. They found one pistol, a country-made pistol, two cartridges and a motorcycle from the spot.“Around 26 cases, including robbery and house thefts, are registered against Sonu in Delhi, while around 11 criminal cases are registered against Rahul,” the ACP said.
