Gurgaon road rage driver held in Raj, police slap attempt to murder case
Kalyan was arrested from Dausa in Rajasthan

Gurgaon: Kalyan Bainsla (33), who rammed his car into a biker and caused her to fall in the middle of fast-moving traffic on Golf Course Road Sunday morning, was arrested at Dausa in Rajasthan on Tuesday.A video from her bike’s camera that Shivani Chauhan (27) uploaded online showed her being knocked down near Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station after the car repeatedly tried to get alongside her bike. Her Aprilia RS 457 slid across the road, while traffic sped past her.Bainsla’s cousin Lovneesh (32), who was in the Maruti Ciaz with him on Sunday, was arrested too. After examining the video of the crash that Shivani shared, police have added the attempt to murder charge in the FIR against Bainsla. “He caused the collision deliberately from the side. He had an intention to kill her,” DCP (east) Sandeep Kumar saidKumar clarified that the additional charge was based on evidence, not media pressure. “It’s fortunate that she did not suffer any fatal injury. Only because she was wearing safety gear,” he said.Police said Bainsla disappeared after giving a media interview when Shivani uploaded the video and it attracted widespread outrage. He crossed the border to Rajasthan with his cousin. Police sources said they even visited Pushkar before being caught near Dausa.Bainsla had on Monday given a starkly different account. He claimed a group of 22-23 bikers was riding aggressively, repeatedly overtaking his car and slowing down in front of it. He said Shivani suddenly turned while he was taking a U-turn, leaving him with little time to react. “I tried very hard to avoid the collision,” he had said, denying that he had hit her deliberately or fled when asked to stop at a signal.Police had taken suo motu cognisance of Shivani’s video on Monday and registered an FIR against unknown persons under sections 125 and 281, for rash or negligent acts endangering life or personal safety. On Tuesday, the Sector 56 SHO visited Shivani’s Delhi home and got her statement recorded. BNS sections 78 and 79 — for physical/digital stalking and insulting a woman’s modesty through words or gestures – were added too. The attempt to murder charge was included later.Bainsla, who runs a gym and deals in property as well, identifies himself as a kabaddi and rugby player. The Ciaz he was driving on Sunday belongs to his friend Manish, an Army personnel, who had lent it to him on Friday.Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said Bainsla attempted to escape after his arrest, using the pretext of going to urinate. He fell while fleeing, suffered injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police sources said he will be produced before a city court on Wednesday. Shivani’s statement was also recorded before a magistrate.
