Dibrugarh: Cattle owners in Dibrugarh have been given 24 hours to remove their animals from market areas and public roads.The directive, issued on Tuesday by Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) commissioner Shivani Jerngal, cited concerns over cleanliness, sanitation and public inconvenience.The corporation said cattle, particularly cows, were frequently found roaming freely in market areas under its jurisdiction, with cow dung scattered across the premises.The notice directed owners to keep their cattle under control and prevent them from roaming in market areas or on public roads. Owners were also asked to maintain cleanliness.The DMC warned that failure to comply could result in the seizure and removal of the animals.“DMC shall be at liberty to seize and remove such stray cattle and shift them to a designated gaushala at the risk and cost of the owner concerned, without any further notice,” the order read.The civic body said the move aimed to address public-health and civic-management concerns in busy commercial areas, where free-roaming cattle can obstruct traffic, create unhygienic conditions and inconvenience pedestrians and motorists.The notice urged compliance in the interest of “public health, cleanliness, sanitation and smooth movement of the general public.”The order comes amid concerns over unattended cattle in commercial areas, where their presence has contributed to traffic congestion and the accumulation of animal waste.
