Mohali: More than five years after Youth Akali Dal functionry Vikramjit Singh Middukhera, alias Vicky, was shot dead in Sector 71, the name of Shaganpreet Singh, former manager of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has resurfaced in the gangster network following a recent police encounter in Ludhiana.Punjab Police have named Shaganpreet and gangster Balwinder Singh, alias Dony Bal, as alleged conspirators in a plot to target a blood donation camp held in memory of slain former Congress sarpanch Rajwinder Singh, alias Ravi Khwajke, on Dugri Road, Ludhiana.Police said two alleged shooters, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, and Karanjot Singh, alias Nona, both from Amritsar, were intercepted by a joint team of the Anti-Gangster Task Force and Ludhiana police near Atam Park, around 1km from the venue. The suspects allegedly opened fire at the police vehicle, triggering an exchange in which more than 25 rounds were fired and both were killed.Preliminary investigation indicated that the shooters were in direct contact with Shaganpreet and Bal, who are believed to be abroad. Police alleged the duo had assigned the shooters to carry out a mass shooting at the camp and were linked to the Bambiha gang.Shaganpreet is already wanted by Mohali police in the August 7, 2021, murder of Middukhera. Investigators had alleged that he provided logistical support to the shooters, conducted reconnaissance of Middukhera’s residence and helped arrange a vehicle. According to the police case, he took the shooters to the area and helped identify the target before Middukhera was tracked to Sector 71 and shot outside a property dealer’s office.Shaganpreet was closely associated with Moose Wala and handled his professional engagements, including shows in India and abroad. After the arrest of the main accused by the Delhi Police Special Cell, Mohali police began searching for him.From Dubai to AustraliaAccording to the police investigation, Shaganpreet returned from Dubai after arranging one of Moose Wala’s shows and stayed in Mohali for only three to four days before fleeing to Australia, days after Middukhera’s murder.Mohali police subsequently initiated proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender and issued a Look Out Circular and Red Corner Notice against him. Extradition efforts through Interpol were also initiated. He has remained untraceable since fleeing abroad.
