Prayagraj: Allahabad University is drawing a growing share of students from outside Uttar Pradesh, with more than 900 students from 26 states securing admission to its undergraduate programmes this academic session. Around 3,700 students have taken admission against nearly 3,800 UG seats, meaning students from other states account for almost one-fourth of the total intake.Bihar has emerged as the biggest contributor, with 374 students joining the university’s undergraduate programmes. Madhya Pradesh follows with 182 students, while 99 students are from Jharkhand, 49 from Chhattisgarh and 44 from Rajasthan. West Bengal and Odisha have contributed 29 and 23 students respectively.The university has also attracted students from Haryana (19), Assam and Uttarakhand (12 each) and Delhi (11). Six students each have joined from Gujarat, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, while Punjab and Arunachal Pradesh have contributed seven and four students respectively. Students from Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Mizoram, Kerala, Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and Karnataka have also enrolled in UG programmes.Admissions have been completed in 19 undergraduate courses on the university campus. The trend is also visible at the postgraduate level, where students from several states have joined different programmes. Bihar again tops the list with 106 students, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 42 and Jharkhand with 20. Delhi has contributed 15 students and Rajasthan seven, while Haryana and Odisha have six each. Chhattisgarh and West Bengal have five students each. Students from Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Kerala and Sikkim have also secured admission.Among PG programmes, the highest number of students from outside UP has enrolled in LLB (Honours), with 16 admissions, followed by psychology with 15 and political science with 12. History and law have recorded eight admissions each from students of other states.
