T’puram: Ganeshotsava Trust Committee will organise the annual Ganeshotsava procession and idol immersion in the city on Tuesday, marking the culmination of celebrations that began on Sept 8. The police have announced traffic and parking restrictions along the procession route on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm to 9pm.Ganesh idols installed at 1,208 centres and more than two lakh homes across the district will be brought in smaller processions to the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple premises by 3pm. A cultural meeting will be inaugurated by transport minister C P John at 4pm, following which the main procession will begin from East Fort.Around 2,000 artistes will perform traditional percussion and cultural programmes, including panchavadyam, chenda melam, Nashik band, shinkari melam, Malabar theyyam and pookkavadi. Idols depicting 32 forms and eight incarnations of Lord Ganesh will be part of the procession.The procession will pass through Overbridge, Ayurveda College, Statue Jn, Palayam, General Hospital, Pattom, Pettah and All Saints‘ College Jn before reaching Shanghumugham. Devotees and idols organised by various committees, business associations, temples, ashrams and cultural organisations will also participate.A Sarva Vighna Nivarana Yajna, involving the offering of 10,008 coconuts, will be held at the Shanghumugham Arattu Mandapam before the idols are immersed in the sea.Traffic restrictions will cover Attakulangara, East Fort, Pazhavangadi, Overbridge, Ayurveda College, Statue, Asan Square, General Hospital, Pattoor, Pettah, Chackai, All Saints‘ College Jn, Shanghumugham and Valiyathura. Parking will be prohibited along the procession route and key connecting roads. Vehicles parked in violation will be removed and legal action taken.The police have advised motorists to use alternative routes and passengers travelling to the domestic airport to avoid the All Saints-Shanghumugham road and use the Enchakkal-Kallumoodu-Valiyathura route.For assistance, contact 0471-2558731 or 9497990005.
