Itanagar: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national general secretary Tarh Johny on Monday launched a scathing attack on Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu over his alleged silence and ‘dismissive approach’ towards reported Chinese PLA activities and transgressions in the Taksing border region in the state’s Upper Subansiri district.In a press statement, Johny said downplaying the concerns of border residents raises serious questions about CM’s commitment to the state’s populace. He stressed that the primary duty of the state’s head is to stand by frontier residents and convey their grievances to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on priority.“The people of Taksing live on the frontier. If they are sounding the alarm, their concerns cannot simply be brushed aside from the comfort of government offices in Itanagar or Delhi,” Johny stated, emphasising that residents are always the first to sense ground-level security developments.The Youth Congress leader pointed out that despite earlier assurances by chief minister to verify ground reports with the Indian Army and locals, no transparent follow-up or clear assurance has been given to the public, even after representations and fact-finding reports were submitted by local bodies.“At a time when the Prime Minister met Chinese President Xi Jinping, the people expected their chief minister to make Taksing’s concerns an unequivocal national issue. Diplomatic engagement with Beijing cannot become an excuse for political silence in Itanagar,” he added.Demanding immediate action, Johny urged the state govt to seek a detailed factual report from Union govt and security agencies, place the issue directly before PM, and issue a clear public clarification. He also called for direct engagement with affected border communities to prevent the spread of rumours.
