Mysuru: Hindu Jagarana Vedike installed a Ganesha idol near T Narasipura police station and announced that it will carry out the immersion procession on Sept 18 through Link Road.According to Vasant Kumar, Vedike’s Mysuru district president, police issued permission for the immersion. “For the first time, we installed a Ganesha idol in T Narasipura. Our pandal is just 200 metres away from the police station,” he said.According to Kumar, the decision to install the idol was taken as a challenge after T Narasipura police inspector Dhananjay dared the right-wing activists over the immersion procession route. “We accepted his challenge. We will carry out the procession through Link Road itself,” he said.It can be recalled that a controversy erupted in T Narasipura after police inspector Dhananjay warned against carrying out a procession on Link Road without permission. A mosque is located on this road.According to police sources, T Narasipura town is peaceful. “On Monday, festival was celebrated with traditional festive atmosphere. There are no communal tension,” said police.Meanwhile, in Mysuru, Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda criticised BJP for communalising the Ganesha celebrations. It is alleged that BJP functionaries carried Lord Ganesha idols wearing footwear.On Sunday, the opposition leader in the assembly, R Ashoka, led the protest against the police holding the idol of Lord Ganesha. Now, questions are being raised over them holding the idol wearing slippers. The video of the protest went viral, with many questioning the devotion of BJP functionaries towards Lord Ganesha.Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress questioned both Ashoka and BJP functionaries over the incident. In a social media post, the party alleged that both leaders lack both common sense and religious sense.
