Dhubri: The ‘adya shraddha’ rituals of Riya Talukdar Goswami were halted midway at her in-laws’ residence in Ward 10 of Gauripur town on Monday after news of her husband Ramanuj Goswami’s death emerged.Ramanuj’s father, Tarun Kumar Goswami, a retired govt employee, said the family was under severe stress following the deaths of Riya and Ramanuj.“I know both my son and daughter-in-law (Riya), they were not such persons as they are being painted now. His mother (Anjali Goswami) weeping and I failed to console her”, Tarun said.Tarun said he was initially told that his son had died in a police encounter. The account later changed to Ramanuj allegedly jumping out of a police vehicle and sustaining fatal head injuries.Asked whether police had informed him about Ramanuj’s death, Tarun said Hatigaon police station OC Brojen Brahma had called and asked him to come to Guwahati. He said he told the officer that he would not be able to travel to Guwahati.Tarun said he would personally examine his son’s body for bullet marks after it was brought to Gauripur. The last rites would be performed there, he said.
