NCR’s Soniya Kushwaha successfully summits 23,200-ft Mount Kun

Prayagraj: An employee of North Central Railway (NCR) and a dedicated athlete, Soniya Kushwaha has scripted history by successfully summiting Mount Kun, standing at 23,200 ft (7,077 m), in the rugged Zanskar Range of Ladakh.Kushwaha successfully reached the summit on Sept 7 after commencing her gruelling climb on Aug 29. The expedition was flagged off from NCR headquarters on Aug 21 by general manager Naresh Pal Singh.She navigated extreme ice and glacier challenges during the expedition, emerging as a pioneering woman mountaineer representing Indian Railways (IR) at such a formidable altitude.GM, NCR, had handed over the national flag to Kushwaha in the presence of principal heads of departments and NCRSA office bearers.Following her triumphant return, Kushwaha was accorded a vibrant welcome by railway officials, members of the sports fraternity and well-wishers.On the milestone achievement, Singh, along with NCRSA president Shashi Prakash Dwivedi, vice-president BP Singh, general secretary Gautam Jain and the entire North Central Railway fraternity, extended his congratulations and best wishes to Kushwaha.“The successful ascent of Mount Kun marks a significant achievement for NCR’s sports community and highlights the growing participation of women railway employees in challenging sporting and mountaineering expeditions,” said NCR’s senior PRO, Amit Malviya.
