Davanagere: Davanagere witnessed renewed tension after 23-year-old Mohammed Hussain, critically injured in a clash between two families in BD Layout, died on Sunday. Hussain had suffered a serious head injury during the violence reported on the night of Sept 6, and was shifted to Nimhans, Bengaluru, for advanced treatment. Doctors, however, could not save him. Four others hurt in the incident are being treated at different private hospitals in the city. Police said the confrontation was linked to a long-running dispute between the families of Butti Mainuddin and Mohammed Ali over a steel business. The rivalry had earlier led to a case in 2025, when members of both groups were accused of attacking one another with weapons. That case is still before the court. Following the latest clash, Azad Nagar police registered fresh proceedings and arrested six accused. Security is being monitored in the area to prevent further trouble.
