The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it shot down an American MQ-1 drone west of the Strait of Hormuz using a previously undisclosed advanced air defence system. Iranian media claims the interception was carried out by the IRGC Aerospace Force under the country’s integrated air defence network. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following a series of military incidents involving drones, missiles, tankers and commercial shipping in the Gulf.
