Patna: An eight-year-old girl, on her way to school for her half-yearly examination, was crushed to death by a sand-laden truck in Samastipur district on Tuesday morning, shortly before her exam was due to begin.The accident took place around 8am near the DAV School turn on Samastipur-Musrigharari road. The deceased was identified as Shreya Kumari, daughter of Ashutosh Ranjan of Mohli village under Sarairanjan police station area.According to her family, Shreya was going to school with her father on a scooter when she fell from the vehicle near the turn. A sand-laden truck approaching from behind ran over her. She died on the spot.Following the accident, a crowd gathered at the site, stopped the truck and caught the driver before handing him over to the police.Police from Musrigharari station reached the spot after being informed about the accident. They prepared the inquest report and sent the body to sadar hospital for postmortem.Musrigharari SHO Rakesh Kumar said Shreya died after being crushed by the truck. He said the truck had been seized, the driver apprehended and the process of registering an FIR was underway.Shreya’s uncle Rajneesh Ranjan said the family had gone to their native village on Monday evening for a Ganesh Chaturthi religious programme and returned home early Tuesday morning after attending the event. After returning from the village, Shreya, a Class II student, got ready for school and asked her father to drop her off. She was travelling with her father when she fell from the scooter on the right side of the road, he said.
