Kanpur: The receding trend in the water level of the Ganga continued on Thursday, but the river continued to flow above the warning mark at the Kanpur Barrage, keeping residents of low-lying areas on alert. The flood situation in the Katri area along the riverbank remained grim, with several villages and their approach routes still submerged under two to three feet of water.According to the Flood Control, LGC, Kanpur, the Ganga water level declined by around 0.21 metre in the past 24 hours and was recorded at 114.090 metres on Thursday. The level has remained above the warning mark for the eighth consecutive day.The upstream water level at the Ganga Barrage was 114.090 metres, while the downstream level stood at 113.630 metres. The warning level is 114 metres and the danger mark is 115 metres. The discharge was recorded at 5,44,373 cusecs.The flood situation in the Katri area and adjoining parts of Unnao continued to cause concern, with several riverside villages still surrounded by floodwater. Almost all approach routes to the affected villages remained submerged, disrupting normal movement and connectivity.At Shuklaganj, the Ganga water level was recorded at 112.550 metres, below the warning mark of 113 metres. The danger level there is 114 metres.Meanwhile, Haridwar Barrage released 70,705 cusecs and Narora Barrage 58,389 cusecs of water, adding to concerns among residents of low-lying areas downstream.Authorities continued to monitor the river levels and flood-affected areas as the Ganga remained above the warning mark at the Kanpur Barrage despite the gradual decline in its water level.
