Patna: Agriculture minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Tuesday expressed confidence that Bihar would achieve its targets for paddy cultivation and other kharif crops following the revival of monsoon rains over the past week.Reviewing the status of paddy nurseries, transplantation and the sowing of other kharif crops, Sinha said paddy nurseries for raising seedlings have been completed and transplantation is progressing at a brisk pace. He added that the sowing of summer maize has also made satisfactory progress.The minister directed district agriculture officials to take full advantage of the favourable weather conditions and extend all necessary assistance to farmers to help achieve the state’s targets for paddy acreage and production.He asked officials to ensure the timely availability of quality seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural inputs so that farmers can continue cultivation without disruption.Anticipating floods and waterlogging in some areas, Sinha also instructed officials to intervene promptly and advise farmers to shift to suitable alternative crops wherever necessary. “This will help ensure assured income for farmers,” the minister said.
