Jaisalmer: 21-year-old Kirti Gosaiwal has been elected unopposed as the first chairperson of the newly formed Dhorimanna Municipality in Balotra district, becoming Rajasthan’s youngest municipal chairperson.Dhorimanna sub-divisional magistrate Badrinarayan Vishnoi Friday declared Gosaiwal elected unopposed and handed her the certificate of election.The Dhorimanna Municipality has 20 wards, of which BJP won 14, Congress three, and independents three. Gosaiwal had contested from Ward 7 on a BJP ticket and defeated her Congress rival by nine votes. The BJP subsequently nominated her for the chairperson’s post. No councillor from Congress or among the independents filed a nomination for the post.She filed her nomination on Sept 16. After scrutiny of the papers and completion of the withdrawal process, the returning officer declared her elected unopposed.Gosaiwal completed her BA this year and is preparing for admission to an MA programme. Her father, Ghevar Singh, is a former Rajasthan Police inspector who took voluntary retirement before the Assembly elections and had sought a BJP ticket from Bilara. He was not given the ticket and has since remained active in political and social activities.Gosaiwal said she had initially aspired to join the civil services but had always been interested in politics. She said her priority as chairperson would be to stand with the people of Dhorimanna and resolve their problems as quickly as possible.“The people of Dhorimanna gave me an opportunity. First, I was elected as a councillor, and then the party made me the chairperson of the municipality. I am grateful to Minister K K Vishnoi and the BJP,” she said.
