Noida/Ghaziabad: Residents of Gyan Khand and Abhay Khand in Indirapuram complained of frequent power cuts on Wednesday and throughout Tuesday, sparking frustration ahead of children’s exams. The recurring outages prompted residents to raise grievances on social media, demanding immediate action and transparency on the electricity supply situation. Residents in Greater Noida, meanwhile, flagged open and damaged feeder boxes, exposed electrical cables and 33kV power lines across several sectors and urged NPCL to repair power infrastructure.“Even after all the drama yesterday, the work remains unfinished… please have some mercy,” Rashmi Singh, a resident of Gyan Khand 1, said, urging officials to expedite repairs.“More than three hours without electricity. Isn’t electricity the consumers’ right?” another resident, Manleen Kar, asked, stressing the need for prior warning regarding such outages.Several residents reported hours-long outages and voltage fluctuations, demanding clarity regarding the problem.Pawan Kumar from Ghaziabad’s power department PVVNL, meanwhile, said that fuse-setting work was underway in Gyan Khand 1, adding that supply would be restored as soon as the work was completed. Despite the assurances, however, residents continued to report low-voltage issues and raise concerns regarding the reliability of the electricity supply in the area.Around 1.30pm on Tuesday, Kumar told residents that the supply issues stemmed from a damaged cable box on the feeder line and that the issue would be fixed in around 15 minutes. Complaints of outages and fluctuations, however, persisted late into the night. By late Wednesday afternoon, Kumar said power had been fully restored in the area, but residents claimed otherwise.Abhay Khand, too, reported similar issues.In Greater Noida, RWA members from across the city met NPCL officials to demand repairs for ageing power infrastructure. Residents raised concerns about open and damaged feeder boxes and exposed electrical cables at multiple locations, as well as exposed 33kV power lines.“Despite the installation of underground lines, the old overhead lines have not yet been removed,” Greater Noida Federation of RWAs president Devendra Tiger said.When asked, senior NPCL officials said that a special drive would be launched to replace damaged feeder boxes across the city and install proper locks on all of them. Exposed cables, unauthorised advertisements and other electricity-related problems would also be addressed soon.“We have organised a two-week customer connect/consumer week programme starting Sept 15. The objective of the programme is to engage directly with consumers, understand their concerns, and address any issues they may be facing. Over the next few days, we will also engage with industry consumers as well as LT and HT consumers as part of this initiative,” the NPCL spokesperson said.
