Mandya: Three members of a family were killed and a minor girl was injured when a milk tanker collided with their scooter near Koppa village in Maddur taluk on Tuesday morning.The deceased were identified as Kavya, 35, Muthuraj, 45, and Keerthana, 9. Twelve-year-old Bhuvana sustained injuries in the accident. The family, comprising the couple and their two daughters, had travelled from Bengaluru to their native place for Ganesh Chaturthi. The accident occurred when they were returning in the early hours of Tuesday.According to police, the milk tanker, allegedly travelling at high speed, collided with the scooter. The impact was severe and the tanker ran over the occupants, killing three of them on the spot. Bhuvana was injured and shifted to a hospital.Koppa police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.Meanwhile, residents have raised concerns over the narrow stretch of road where the accident occurred. Jayaram, a local resident, said the road is barely 12 feet wide but witnesses heavy movement of vehicles, including trucks and other heavy vehicles. He said the presence of a sugar factory, located about a kilometre from the accident spot, has further increased heavy-vehicle movement.Vehicles are frequently parked on both sides of the road, causing congestion and making it difficult for two-wheelers and other motorists to pass safely. Residents said they had repeatedly urged authorities to widen the road, considering the traffic volume on the stretch, but no work has been taken up so far. They have renewed their demand for immediate measures to widen the road and regulate heavy-vehicle movement to prevent further accidents.Man found dead In CauveryThe body of an unidentified man was found in the Cauvery River near the bathing ghat of Nimishamba Temple in Srirangapatna on Tuesday. The deceased is believed to be in his 30s. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, raising suspicion over the cause.After receiving information about the body, police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Fingerprint experts also examined the scene as part of the investigation. The identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to his death are yet to be established. Srirangapatna Rural Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
