SALEM: The Yercaud police have arrested an autorickshaw driver on charges of assaulting a special sub-inspector (SSI) and threatening to kill the SSI and a woman police constable.The arrested auto driver has been identified as Yuvraj, 22, of Mundagampadi. Yuvraj, who was drunk, obstructed vehicles near a Vinayagar statue on Monday. Head constable D Thavamani, who was regulating traffic, intervened. Yuvraj abused her verbally.SSI Aaron Athirubaraj attempted to defuse the situation. “But Yuvraj tore my shirt, struck me on the chest and threatened to kill me and Thavamani,” the SSI said.Police registered a case against Yuvraj under sections relating to obstructing govt servants, assault and criminal intimidation. He was remanded in judicial custody.
