Madikeri: An elderly man allegedly shot his wife with a gun and then shot himself with the same gun in their village of Kumbaragadige in Somwarpet taluk.The deceased have been identified as Subbaiah, 74, and Bhojamma, 72, of the Kannikanda family. The exact reason for the incident is not yet known, police said.Kodagu SP RN Bindu Mani visited the spot.The incident occurred on Monday when no one was at home. In a complaint filed by the deceased couple’s son Doremani, it is stated that Subbaiah first shot Bhojamma in front of their residence and then went inside the house and shot himself with the same gun. Doremani and his daughter, who reside in the house, had gone to their relatives’ house at Abborukatte village when the incident occurred. Another son of the deceased, Bheemani, who also lives in the same house, had gone to a nearby temple, the complaint stated.A postmortem was conducted on Tuesday at the district hospital in Madikeri. Police said the bodies were handed over to the family members.
