Chandrapur: Students of Bamboo Research and Training Centre (BRTC), Chichpalli, have given the traditional Ganesh idol an innovative twist, crafting Bappa entirely from bamboo to blend tradition with sustainability. The idol was formally installed at the centre on Monday to mark Ganesh Chaturthi and the launch of ‘World Bamboo Week 2026’. Titled ‘Bamboo to Bappa’, the initiative seeks to showcase bamboo beyond its conventional uses as a versatile material for art, design and sustainable products. The initiative also promoted an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav by using a natural, renewable material instead of conventional materials that can contribute to environmental pollution.World Bamboo Week 2026 is being observed at BRTC from Sept 14 to 18 under the theme ‘Bamboo for the Future – From Tradition to Innovation’.Technical sessions, expert interactions, student activities, competitions and awareness programmes have been planned throughout the week.BRTC director Umesh Verma said bamboo, often described as ‘green gold’, could drive sustainable livelihoods through eco-friendly products, skill development, employment and rural entrepreneurship. The idol is crafted by students pursuing the Diploma in Bamboo Technology.
