Hazaribag: Following the building mishap in Delhi, the Hazaribag Municipal Corporation has begun preparing action against haphazardly constructed buildings across the city, especially lodges, hostels, apartments and other large structures housing students and tenants.Mayor Arvind Kumar Rana said on Tuesday that inspection orders have already been issued and the civic body will examine buildings under construction as well as those already occupied.Hazaribag, known as an educational hub, draws students from neighbouring districts and other parts of Jharkhand because of its schools, colleges and Vinoba Bhave University, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, besides MBA, LLB, engineering and yoga programmes. More than one lakh students reside in the city in lodges, hostels and paying guest accommodations, making safety checks crucial.Rana said several large buildings and apartments are coming up in narrow lanes and residential localities, often creating concerns over access, crowding and compliance. He said officials must verify whether building plans were approved, construction permissions obtained and safety norms followed. The civic body is preparing building-wise inspections to assess legality and safety standards across the city.During inspections, Rana said, action will be taken as per rules against owners of buildings whose plans are unapproved or where violations of construction norms are detected. The civic body will focus particularly on premises where large numbers of people are likely to live or stay. He warned that if buildings continue to be raised without proper planning and adherence to safety norms, a serious situation could arise in the future.Referring to the incident in Delhi, Rana said building conditions and compliance with construction rules must be inspected before a major mishap occurs. He said the civic body would issue necessary directions in the coming days and carry out inspections to verify whether approved plans and prescribed norms were followed. Action will be taken against building owners if violations are found. The initiative has brought the safety of hostels and apartments across the city under closer scrutiny.
