Patna: A 60-year-old man died after his allegedly drunk son attacked him and his wife with a spade at Mohanpur Ward 39 under Mufassil police station area in Samastipur district late Monday night. The injured woman was undergoing treatment at the local sadar hospital.The victim was identified as Mohammad Islam, a native of Siwan who had settled at his in-laws’ home in Mohanpur after marriage. He lived there with his wife and sons, Sohrab and Arman.According to police, Arman was allegedly addicted to drugs and asked his father for money to buy them on Monday night. Islam gave him some money, but when Arman returned home drunk around midnight, his father scolded him. An argument followed, during which Arman allegedly attacked Islam with a spade. His mother was also injured while trying to intervene.Neighbours and Sohrab rushed the couple to hospital. Islam died while being shifted to a higher medical centre.Mufassil police station officer Ajit Prasad said, “The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.”
