GURGAON: Kalyan Bainsla, who allegedly hit a woman biker, Siya, with his friend’s Maruti Ciaz on Golf Course Road in Haryana’s Gurgaon, described himself on Instagram as an “international kabaddi player” and a member of the “Indian rugby team”.He also runs two to three gyms, works as a gym trainer and has an Instagram presence featuring photographs that were circulated on social media after the incident.His profile photo showed him flexing his arms. He also claimed to have won a bodybuilding tournament called Amateur Olympia India. His claims could not be independently verified.Bainsla was fairly active on Instagram, with most of his posts showing him exercising or flexing his muscles. He had a substantial following on the platform.He has since deactivated his Instagram profile.
What happened?
Bainsla’s car allegedly rammed into a woman biker, Siya, on Golf Course Road on Sunday, knocking her off her bike and sending her skidding on the road.Bainsla allegedly fled after the collision. The biker, Siya, suffered only minor injuries, officials said. She was wearing protective gear at the time.Siya later shared details of the incident on Instagram and posted a video of the hit-and-run, raising concerns over rash driving and harassment.According to Siya, she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 sports bike with a group of bikers on Golf Course Road on Sunday when a car began following them.She said Bainsla approached her and started misbehaving. When she asked him to maintain his distance, he asked her to stop the bike, according to her social media post.Siya also alleged that the occupants appeared to be intoxicated.A short while later, while overtaking, the car struck her bike from the side, causing her to fall, she said.A camera mounted on her bike captured the incident. The video, which was later shared on social media, shows the car hitting the bike and causing it to skid for several metres.The biker had also provided details of the car, which is registered in the name of Manish, a senior police officer said.
What the car owner said
Manish, the registered owner of the car, said he was not driving it when the incident occurred.“I work in the Army and yes, it is my vehicle. I was at work and my friend Kalyan Singh had borrowed my car,” he said.Manish’s uncle, Kartar Poswal, also said the car had been borrowed by Kalyan Baisla, a resident of Tikri Gurjar village, who subsequently caused the accident.He said the family was not aware of Baisla’s whereabouts.
Police action
Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after a video of the collision surfaced on social media and are registering a case against the accused car driver under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (causing injury) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 56 police station, ACP (Headquarters) Abhilaksh Joshi said.No written complaint has been received from the victim so far, Joshi said. He added that the accused had been identified and would be apprehended at the earliest, with strict legal action to be taken against those found involved.Police have formed three special teams to apprehend the accused and are conducting raids at various locations, they said.In a subsequent Instagram post, Siya said she would file an FIR with her lawyer by Monday evening and pursue legal action. She also said she would not give interviews to news organisations and requested that her decision to keep her identity and face private be respected.“Gurgaon Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards road-rage, reckless behaviour, and any form of unlawful conduct on the roads. Any such incident will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with law,” he said.
