Saudi Arabia is racing to restore its East-West Pipeline after drone attacks forced the crucial oil route to suspend operations. Three industry sources told Reuters that Yanbu currently holds enough crude to sustain exports for only another five to seven days. The 1,200-kilometre pipeline is Saudi Arabia’s only major export route capable of bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. It had been carrying approximately four million barrels per day—equivalent to around four percent of global oil supply. Complete repairs could reportedly require five to six weeks, although partial pumping may resume earlier. The pressure comes as Saudi Civil Defense issued—and later lifted—emergency alerts in Khamis Mushait and Abha. Meanwhile, disruptions around Hormuz and Houthi advances near Bab el-Mandeb are narrowing Riyadh’s remaining export options from both directions.
