SI arrested for accepting bribe in Patna

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Monday arrested a station house officer (SHO) in Patna district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 27,000 inside the police station premises.The accused, sub-inspector Saurabh Kumar, SHO of Samyagarh police station, was allegedly demanding weekly payments from a complainant in exchange for allowing an earthmover machine to operate in the area.According to the VIB, Manoj Kumar, a resident of Prahladpur under Samyagarh police station, lodged a complaint at its Patna office, alleging that the SHO was extorting money on a weekly basis. Following verification, the bureau found evidence supporting the bribery allegations. An FIR was subsequently registered and a trap team was constituted under the supervision of Arunodaya Pandey, Senior DSP, VIB, Patna.During the trap operation, the team caught SI Saurabh Kumar red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 27,000 inside the Samyagarh police station premises. The accused is being interrogated and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. Further investigation is underway.The bureau said this was the 85th corruption-related FIR registered in Bihar in 2026 and the 79th trap case of the year. So far, 79 accused have been caught red-handed in trap operations, leading to the recovery of Rs 29.14 lakh in bribe money. For comparison, the VIB registered 101 trap cases in 2025 and recovered Rs 37.80 lakh in bribes.
