Shillong: Former United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator Jemino Mawthoh joined BJP on Saturday amid reports that eight of the party’s 12 MLAs were considering switching allegiance to the saffron party.Mawthoh joined BJP at the party office in Shillong in the presence of state BJP president Ernest Mawrie and MLA A L Hek. Speaking to reporters, Mawthoh said he had taken the decision after studying BJP’s constitution, which, he said, championed democracy, “positive secularism”, integral humanism and value-based politics.“I feel right now BJP is the right choice,” he said, adding that he did not consider any other party to be at par with it.
