Kanpur: The body of an 18-year-old madrassa student who went missing while bathing in the Ishan River two days ago was recovered near the old GT Road bridge on Saturday morning.According to police, the body was found floating about 7 km downstream from Makanpur in the Araul police station area of Bilhaur.The body was sent for postmortem examination after being identified by family members.Police said the deceased, Rehan, a resident of Mustafabad in Delhi, was a student at the Uloom Madrassa attached to Jamia Masjid in Makanpur.On Thursday evening, at around 5 pm, he had gone to offer namaz at Dargah Sharif before visiting a ghat in Karbala with friends to bathe in the river.During the bath, he allegedly ventured into deep water and started drowning. His friends raised an alarm, prompting local residents working in nearby fields to rush to the spot, search for him and inform the police.The search operation continued until late Thursday in the presence of police personnel, but Rehan could not be traced. An SDRF team joined the operation on Friday and searched various stretches of the river without success.Local residents spotted the body floating in the river on Saturday morning and alerted the police.
