Nagpur: Historic Adasa Ganesh Temple, one of the district’s prominent religious destinations in Kalmeshwar taluka, has been accorded ‘B-Category’ rural pilgrimage centre status by Maharashtra govt. The decision has paved the way for planned development of the temple precinct and improving facilities for devotees while also giving a fillip to religious tourism in the region.Believed to be centuries old, Adasa Ganesh Temple is among Nagpur district’s well-known religious and cultural landmarks and attracts devotees from across Vidarbha. The rural development department granted the temple the status under Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Rural Pilgrimage Site Scheme (B-Class).Additional chief executive officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad had submitted the proposal seeking B-Category status for the temple, according to an official statement. On Aug 10, the state-level criteria committee scrutinised the proposal against the eligibility conditions prescribed by state govt before approving B-Class pilgrimage centre status for the temple.Revenue minister and Nagpur guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who had pursued the proposal, said Adasa is an important centre of faith in Vidarbha.
