Panchkula: Academic activities at the newly constructed girls’ nursing college in Kherawali village, Pinjore, are yet to begin nearly 11 months after its virtual inauguration by Union home minister Amit Shah.Constructed at a cost of ₹39.13 crore in Oct last year, the facility remains non-functional due to pending staff recruitment. Intended to offer BSc Nursing training through NEET-based admissions, the institute was approved by former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar as part of a state initiative to construct six nursing colleges to address the shortage of qualified medical staff.The completed campus features a dedicated academic block, student hostels, and staff residential quarters. An RTI response from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Haryana, confirmed that an NOC for 60 BSc nursing seats has been granted for the Kherawali college, but provided no timeline for starting operations.Demanding immediate action, Shivalik Vikas Manch president Vijay Bansal said, “The issue is no longer just about announcements, but about accountability. Residents are asking — when will announcements translate into action. Are inaugurations done only to fool people. The authorities should ensure no inaugurations should be done until the facility is ready to run. Due to lack of adequate health facilities in Pinjore city of Kalka, people are forced to go to Panchkula, Chandigarh, or private hospitals for treatment or nursing education.”Bansal added, “The nursing college is a hope not only for young girls of Pinjore, but for the girls of the entire Panchkula district and other neighbouring places. Even if they get the required approvals and make arrangements today, the session will start later and take more time. The authorities should take note of this non-functional facility and immediately work on opening it to provide relief to the people.”
