Belagavi: The death toll in the fire that broke out at a house in Chavat Galli, allegedly following a refrigerator blast and an electrical short circuit, rose to six on Wednesday. Four women from the family died at the scene after being trapped in the blaze, while two other family members succumbed to their injuries at a hospital on Wednesday.The deceased were identified as Roshan Damone, 21, and Gajanan Damone, 61, who died in hospital, and Bharati Rajaram Damone, 50, Sharada Gajanan Damone, 45, Priya Gajanan Damone, 28, and Ganga Gajanan Damone, 25. The four women were charred to death in the fire.According to reports, the Damone family had celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi after installing an idol at their residence. The tragedy occurred around 1.30 am on Tuesday when a short circuit triggered a fire in their small tin-sheet house. The flames spread rapidly, trapping the occupants inside.While four family members died on the spot, Gajanan and his son Roshan suffered critical burn injuries. They were rushed to hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.The last rites of the deceased were performed at the Sadashiv Nagar crematorium amid mourning. The incident has cast a shadow over Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the city and highlighted the risks posed by electrical faults in densely populated residential areas.
