Haveri: A routine journey turned tragic for a family from Chikkaladinni village after their moped rammed a stranded truck on National Highway 48 near Gundenahalli Cross in Byadgi taluk on Sunday evening, killing a man and his teenage son on the spot.Police said 41-year-old Maruti Lakshmappa Patil was riding a TVS XL moped from Hiriyur to Chikkaladinni with his wife, Manjula, 31, and sons Parashuram, 15, and Nanjunda, 13, when the accident occurred. The moped reportedly crashed into the rear of a truck that had broken down and was parked on the highway.The impact proved fatal for Maruti and Parashuram, who died at the scene. Manjula and Nanjunda sustained injuries and were rushed to Haveri District Hospital for first aid before being shifted to KMC-RI Hospital, Hubballi, for further treatment.Byadgi police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the truck’s condition, its placement on the road and visibility at the spot at the time of the mishap.
