Thiruvananthapuram: General education minister N Samsudheen has launched ‘Mukulam’ portal, designed to provide AI-assisted training to higher secondary students preparing for competitive examinations.Govt aims to ensure equal opportunities for students in public schools by enabling them to benefit from AI through the portal, the minister said. He was speaking after inaugurating the portal, developed by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) as part of the general education department’s 100-day action plan, at Jawahar Cooperative Bhavan.The minister said innovative initiatives such as Mukulam would help transform the higher secondary sector into a centre of excellence. He also called for the effective implementation of such projects in schools.The portal has been developed to provide free AI-based training to higher secondary and vocational higher secondary students preparing for entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE, CUET, IISER and KVPY. The project aims to provide students who are unable to attend private coaching centres because of financial difficulties with an opportunity to achieve good results in competitive examinations.The project was successfully completed as a pilot programme in 25 selected schools. Digital learning materials for around 10 subjects in the science, humanities and commerce streams have been prepared using AI technologies on the new KITE website.The minister also inaugurated a one-day workshop for VHSE principals organised by KITE at Jawahar Cooperative Bhavan. He said timely changes were necessary in the VHSE sector as well. VHSE would be restructured by integrating sectors such as agriculture and industry with modern technologies, including AI, while giving importance to new employment opportunities.Govt intended to form a new committee for this purpose, the minister said. He added that the public education sector could be taken forward successfully only when different responsibilities were discharged with effective coordination.
