Vadodara: Vadodara Crime Branch arrested a member of the notorious Rohit Godara gang from Delhi on Sunday while he was allegedly on his way to collect Rs 10 lakh as part of a Rs 10 crore extortion demand made to a city-based businessman. Police also recovered more than 2kg of heroin, valued at over Rs 4 crore, from a car linked to the accused.The accused, identified as Kuldeep Swami, was allegedly sent by gang member Rohit Godara to collect the extortion money from the businessman at Chandni Chowk in Delhi.According to police, the businessman had complained after receiving threats and an extortion demand of Rs 10 crore. Crime Branch teams began tracing the accused and reached Delhi.During the probe, the businessman received another call from Godara demanding money. The businessman agreed to pay Rs 10 lakh, following which Godara allegedly instructed Swami to collect the amount from Chandni Chowk.Vadodara crime branch officials, with the help of New Delhi police special cell, laid a trap and kept watch over the area. Swami was apprehended when he arrived to collect the money, police said.During questioning, Swami allegedly admitted that he had come to collect the extortion amount on Godara’s behalf.Police are now investigating Swami’s links with Godara and the source and intended destination of the heroin.
