Hubballi: In a major security boost ahead of the Ganesha festival, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has decided to provide 400 CCTV cameras and related surveillance equipment on a rental basis across its limits, following a request from the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate.The move comes after the commissioner of police sought the installation of 400 CCTV cameras in Hubballi-Dharwad to strengthen security arrangements during the festival. Acting on the request, HDMC has floated a tender inviting interested agencies to supply and install the cameras.Officials said the corporation had initially planned to deploy 250 CCTV cameras. However, while issuing the tender, HDMC increased the number by 150, taking the total to 400 cameras.As per the proposal, HDMC will install CCTV systems that meet specified technical standards. The deployment includes 3 MP IP cameras with SIM-card network support, live preview capability, two-way audio, day-night mode, a 16-channel NVR and a 4TB surveillance hard disk. The system is designed to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and recording during the festival period.Police personnel will be able to access live footage through the SIM-enabled network connectivity. The arrangement is expected to improve real-time surveillance and facilitate quick response in case of any untoward incidents.The tender aims to identify vendors capable of supplying and installing the required cameras and associated equipment on a rental basis within municipal limits. The initiative is part of the enhanced security measures sought by the police for Ganesha celebrations.HDMC commissioner Rudresh Ghali said the installation would be carried out according to the prescribed specifications, enabling police to monitor live feeds through the network-supported system. The tender will be opened on Aug 11, and the estimated project cost is around Rs 13 lakh, he added.
