Patna: The body of a 20-year-old man, who had gone missing on Tuesday evening, was found on the banks of the Burhi Gandak river in Nazirpur area of Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday morning.The deceased was identified as Ajay Kumar, 20, the only son of Beni Paswan, a resident of Nazirpur under Ahiyapur police station.Ajay’s family members and local residents said he had gone towards the river on Tuesday evening and did not return. They searched for him but could not trace him.Villagers spotted a body on the bank of the Burhi Gandak near Raja Punas around 4am on Wednesday and informed Ajay’s family. His family members reached the spot and identified the body.Family members and residents suspected Ajay slipped while walking along the riverbank and fell into deep water. Police said the exact circumstances of the death would be known after investigation and postmortem.Ajay was the only son of his parents and had two sisters. His family members said his death had left them shattered.A police team from Ahiyapur police station reached the spot after being informed. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for postmortem.City SDPO Vinita Sinha said police had received information about the death of a youth suspected to have drowned. “The body has been sent for postmortem and police are investigating the matter,” she said.
